I posted here about making passive money online, simple and easy, legit ways that I personally use to make extra money every month.
You haven't tried it? Go! You can do it while making your new blog. (I do that too.)
You already signed up? You want more income a month from online?
You've seen how many people make money blogging and love it!
Why not try it out? Well, I'm going to give you a few tips to get started!
1. What is your niche?
Do you have a niche? Need to find one? Well, what are you passionate about? Let's start there.
Me? I'm a single mom, homeschooler, dancer, bookworm, adventure queen (Sagittarius), wine drinking, ex cloth diapering, ex brestfeeding, (they're a little older now), beach loving.... oh you get my drift.
Chances are you can make a list just like that for yourself.
Well what comes first? Mom? Single mom is on my list. What have I learned about that? Well, why I describe myself to people who don't know me, that usually comes first. Well, the mom part at least.
So, you're a parent? What do you do? EVERYTHING. OK, OK.
I got you. We'd lose our heads if they weren't attached, some days. (Just me? oh!)
Write about that. Parenting, mothering, teaching, nursing, cloth diapers, etc, etc.
No, no, I don't want to do parenting, you say.
No problem! There are a million other things. You just need to find what you KNOW.
Writing about what you know is a great way to get the info out there to others as well as save your time. Why? Because you're not researching everything you're writing about.
What happens once you've found your niche?
2. Create your blog
Easier said than done? Yes. BUT don't let that discourage you! If you want to make money in any way, you have to do a little work. I won't sugar coat it for you, you're here for answers.
There are a ton of free resources out there for making blogs. You don't have to start with a paid site.
However, it is nice having your own domain. Do some research and find what you like, what offers you what you're looking for.
I personally go through WordPress. You can find more about that HERE.
I am familiar with the site, there are many free plugins, widgets, themes, etc. It also makes it very easy to follow and comment on fellow wordpress member blogs. You get all their new posts and comments, and yours of course, right in your wordpress account, no need to sort through emails!
So you've chosen your domain, sites, themes, etc. Now what?
3. Make it Simple and Easy
Don't make your site complicated. Make it so your audience can find your stuff easily. After all, you want them to read your content, not get frustrated trying to find that.
If you're using wordpress, you can go to appearance, widgets, then choose them. I am not sure the difference between paid domains and free domains here. There are widgets you can put in your sidebar/s, header, footer, that automatically display your top posts. You can also put one that automatically displays your most recent posts.
There are other ways to do the above but we'll get into that in a future post.
Point being, make your site easy to navigate.
Easy to navigate, got it. Moving on...
4. Write! Write, write, write.
Ha.! I know you do, but people get caught up in the details.
Do people want to hear about your everyday life, what you had for breakfast, lunch and dinner, what you wore, who you saw?
Are you writing a food blog? Yes to the meals.
Fashion? Yes to clothing.
Celebs? Yep, see them! Make sure you grab 1000 photos too before they hide!
All of the above plus more? No, not really.
I don't want to come to a fashion blog and see pictures of food everywhere, or cloth diapers.. etc.
Writing about more than one thing, OK. Two or three things? OK. Don't write about anything and everything.
Remember, you're writing for your audience just as much as you're writing for you. Money making blogs usually focus on what their audience likes/wants.
I'm writing, now what?
5. Gain an audience
Despite what people may tell you, this doesn't happen overnight.
If someone tells you that, they've probably been blogging for a while and have many posts, then one of their posts goes viral. YAY!
Awesome. BUT what happens until then? Keep writing. Don't give up.
Get on social media, whatever ones you want. I'm currently only on Pinterest and Facebook. You don't have to be on all of them, but you can if you want. Have your friends and family come by and check your site out.
This audience part was brief but I want to get into more detail about it in the next post.
