Adult Book reviews will be in the ‘Adult Book Club’ category on my blog. It can be found on the front page located on the left. This is because the books and/or reviews may have language not appropriate for children.
And this one does.
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
“In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.
Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father’s failed rebellion with her life. Alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted by the Senate and her father’s former comrades. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer, and a future she never imagined.
Now, a sixteen year old Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic ― the Red Church. Treachery and trials await her with the Church’s halls, and to fail is to die. But if she survives to initiation, Mia will be inducted among the chosen of the Lady of Blessed Murder, and one step closer to the only thing she desires.
Wow. Lets just say I was hooked from the beginning!
First: It’s hard to get into. Not because it doesn’t interest you, it is definitely interesting. Because his style of writing is different. Not bad, but different.
You might be a bit confused at the beginning but hang in there! It’ll all come. I promise! And boy does he make it come! (oh, heh *blushes at accidental dirty joke*) Just kidding, dirty it is! This book isn’t for the faint hearted.
Kristoff uses sex and violence in his opening… where do you think the rest of the story is going to go?
Our main character, Mia Corver is a stone cold killer.. and we love her for it. I found myself rooting for her the whole time. The book tells us the story of her innocence and how, it’s unjust-fully taken from her or she pays for it to be taken from her.
She is one for surprises after all.
Friendships are made where friendships shouldn’t be. Love is found where no love belongs. Loss is found around every corner.
This is a great book for people who like sci-fi, action, a little friendship, a little love, lust and of course, death.
